resident of the USA. If you are a Green card holder, you can work in USA and you
may apply for the USA Citizenship and that will not affects your present
citizenship. Initially Green card was called as “Alien Registration Receipt Card”
and also “Permanent Resident Card”.
|
|
Green card gives you the rights same as an American Citizen, if you have the
Green card you will get the freedom to leave in USA and you will get the legal
rights to work in USA, study in USA etc. According to USA laws an immigrant must
carry his/her identity cards to show to a USCIS officer.
|
|
There are different ways to get the Green card for USA –
|
|
Green Card Processing:
To get the permanent resident status, an immigrant must go through this following
steps :
- An immigrant petition must be approved by USCIS, which is filed by your
relative.
- Then you will get the visa number (if you are in USA), that means an immigrant
visa has been assigned for you.
- Once you get the visa number, then you can apply for the Permanent Resident to
the USCIS. If you are residing outside of the USA at that time then you need to
go to the USA consulates to complete the total Green card process.
|
|
After this process, The U.S. citizens residing in America and lawful permanent
residents can file the petition for you with the appropriate United States
Citizenship and Immigration Services office in the United States.
|
At the time of filing the petition, the petitioner must submit the following
documents:
- a completed and signed application form for green card and alien registration
form
- two forward facing recent color photographs
- a valid passport or any other travel documents
- proof of medical examination

- marriage certificate(if applicable)
- divorce or death certificate(if applicable) and more depending on the situation
|
|
After this process, if your petition is approved then immigrant visa application
process begins. If the petitio is approved by USCIS then you will receive a
notification of approval. Once you get this notification then you can file
